Oily Skin Care Tips

This type of skin requires special oily skin care products which help remove excess oil without drying out or damaging your skin.

Oily skin is shiny because it produces excessive sebum, especially in the T-zone’ – the central area of the forehead, nose and chin. Oily skin can have large pores, troublesome blackheads and acne, but it does not react badly to, and is comfortable after, washing with soap and water. Too much soap and water does, however, cause the oil glands to overcompensate and overproduce to combat dryness.

The best skin care for oily skin routine uses lukewarm water with a facial wash, which is massaged well into the skin and then rinsed off. Avoid alcohol-based astringents, which are too harsh and drying even for oily skins. Use a light moisturizer, the best being a fluid or gel rather than a cream. Wait a few minutes after applying moisturizer and then blot off any that is unabsorbed with a tissue.

The best oily skin care products will help to cleanse the excess oils from your skin without drying your skin out completely. There are a growing number of specific oily skin care products on the market today, but look for ones with no alcohol and ideally no petro-chemical based ingredients.

During the day, refresh the skin by removing excess grease and grime with cotton wool balls soaked in a mild toner.

Oily Skin Care Tips

Count your blessings if you have oily skin: you probably have fewer wrinkles than women with drier skin. Start your oily skin care cleansing routine by blotting your face with a tissue to remove excess oil. Use soap to wash your face, but, if that makes it feel taut, switch to a gentler product instead. Wash off or wipe away grease and grime with an oil-free cleanser. Be careful not to massage or over stimulate the skin, which increases oil production, so making the problem worse.

After cleansing, use a mild astringent toner. Then moisturize around your eye area with a cream or lotion designed for that area. Exfoliate at least twice a week, to encourage skin cell renewal. Dead cells stay for longer on oily skin, attracting grime and pollutants. Oily skin responds to regular, therapeutic deep cleansing. Avoid stressing your skin and enlarging pore appearance by applying sunscreen/moisturizers containing SPF15.
